Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone has any advice when it comes to having my credit report updated. I've been discharged from my trust deed (and trustee has been discharged too!) almost 6 months and still receiving defaults every month. Does anyone have a template letter to give me an idea what I should be saying to creditors?

Morning TheShadow

I would send a copy of your discharge letter to your creditors and request they update your credit report.

If you have misplaced your discharge letter then please contact your trustee for a further copy.

Hi TheShadow.

We've never really gone into sharing template letters on this site, but members are free to share anything that they've used.

Bear in mind that the obligation is on your creditors to ensure that they're reporting accurately to the credit reference agencies. You'd be well within your rights to make a complaint to them if they are not, and to escalate this to the Financial Ombudsman if they don't resolve your complaint satisfactorily.

You don't have to write. You can call in to make a complaint. Because your trustee has been discharged for less than one year you can easily refer people to the online Register of Insolvencies to check that what you're saying is accurate.

As mentioned you don't have write to them and sometimes calling them is much quicker.

Check all of the free services, ClearScore, Noddle, MSE Credit Club.
Make sure all the dates of defaults for both open and closed accounts are as of the date you signed (this will be the same date as in your public records section for your PTD).
Make sure all defaulted accounts (OPEN and CLOSED) are marked as Settled or Partially Satisfied.

For anything that is wrong ask the creditor to make the correction. They should do this very quickly and you will need to send along a copy of the Form 5 at the same time. even if they sold on the debt they are still responsible for making sure the information is accurate.

Everything will then come off at the same time which will be 6 years from the date you signed the PTD
