I am a Senior Relationship Manager with Henderson Loggie CA. I primarily work from their head office in Dundee. I started my working career with a major high street bank but left after 10 years. The job had become too focused on selling. As a working mum (with two young boys at the time) I went to work for my Local Authority. Working in the Revenues Section, my job was to recover unpaid Poll Tax and Council Tax. After three years of verbal abuse over the phone, I decided it was time to go and work on the “other side”! |
I trained as a Money Adviser. Initially working in the Voluntary Sector, I learnt not only about debt advice but also about benefits so I could help to maximise people’s income. It was the best move I ever made and I have worked in the debt advice field ever since.
I later moved into personal insolvency, specialising in Protected Trust Deeds and Sequestration. Eleven years later I am still here. There have been many changes in the legislation and “best practices” during these years and I feel it has made the market a safer place for anyone choosing this route to deal with their debts.
I consider myself very fortunate to be in a job where I can help people who, for whatever reasons, have found themselves experiencing hard times. I travel around the whole of Scotland visiting clients. For someone who was completely rubbish at geography I now find my way around Scotland quite well (with the help of SatNav of course!).
My children are now older (20 & 25) and I wonder where the last twenty-plus years have gone. When I got married nearly 28 years ago my husband and I thought we would be retired by 60. That was before we had the expense of children and before the government started changing the retirement age! It looks like I will be working (hopefully in this industry) for another 20 years
