I am an Insolvency Supervisor with Tenon Debt Solutions, based primarily in their Edinburgh Office. Originally from Sunderland, I moved to Edinburgh to attend university in 1993 and before too long had fallen in love, not only with Scotland but also with a Scottish girl, so decided to stay around after graduation

I started work with a major high street bank as a personal account manager. After a few years of growing steadily dissatisfied with having to sell credit cards and loans etc to customers who may have only come in to pay a bill, I decided to switch sides. I became a debt adviser, working both from the local authority's money advice centre as well as Edinburgh Central Citizens' Advice Bureau.
I never looked back and it felt much better to be able to help hundreds of clients to overcome their debt problems instead of adding to them! In around five years as a debt adviser I became an expert at dealing with debt problems. Of course, this would regularly mean that I would advise people on options such as bankruptcy and Trust Deeds and I decided that I would like to specialise in this field, eventually moving to Tenon.
I feel strongly that people who have serious debt problems, for whatever reason, should be treated with fairness and respect. I think it can be too easy for insolvency professionals to forget how difficult it is for people to come forward and seek their help, so I always try to keep this in mind when I am meeting with clients. Hopefully this helps put clients at ease and gives them confidence that we will be able to relieve their situation.
I now travel widely in Scotland meeting with clients, but always look forward to getting home at night and being with my wife and two little boys. I often travel down to Sunderland too to visit family - though I must admit I always try to coincide my trips to my parents with weekends when Sunderland football club are playing at home, having been a devoted follower all of my life. I also like to pretend I can play a bit myself - though to honest my creaking joints have been starting to complain louder than ever lately!
